RAIL TRANSPORTATION CERTIFICATION


World Safety Organization, Inc. (WSO) has established two certification categories for the rail transportation industry; Certified Safety Specialist and Certified Safety and Security Director. Qualifications and criteria are as follows:

Certified Safety Specialist (CSS) - an individual must have successfully completed five of the transit-related core courses conducted by the U. S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) Transportation Safety Institute and have a minimum of five (5) years of directly related safety experience in the rail transportation industry.

Certified Safety and Security Director (CSSD) - an individual must have successfully completed five of the transit-related core courses conducted by the USDOT Transportation Safety Institute and have a minimum of ten (10) years of directly related safety experience in the rail transportation industry.

This initiative recognizes the expertise of rail transportation safety and security professionals. Certification is an important step in determining a basic level of competence that is measurable by and meaningful to both management and peers within the industry.
